Abstract

The international community has recognized the importance of safeguarding the rights of future generations to enjoy a healthy environment and a decent standard of living. This recognition has been achieved through the establishment of agreements and the organization of conferences to raise global awareness about the imperative of preserving the quality of life and lifestyles that future generations will experience. Among the recent developments in this context is the Algerian Constitution, which, through constitutional amendments in 2016, underscored advancements in human rights. It sought to enshrine various rights for future generations, particularly the right to sustainable development within a healthy environment, thus elevating them to fundamental, constitutionally guaranteed rights.

Regardless of the methods that the law has introduced or will introduce, the commitments of present generations to future generations cannot be established without spreading awareness about the effectiveness of this responsibility among citizens. Additionally, genuine moral education should be promoted to enable citizens to reflect on the consequences of their actions and choices and understand the extent of their impact on the rights of future generations. The commitment to protecting the rights of future generations regarding natural petroleum resources (such as oil and natural gas) has garnered substantial attention on both the international and national fronts. This has led to the signing of numerous international agreements and the organization of conferences that affirmed these rights. Democratic governments have urged including these rights in their constitutional and national legislation through comprehensive and binding
